Background:
+Marvel Database Entry for full history

Centuries ago, a group of alien humanoids settled the largest planet in the Keystone Quadrant star system. Here they built a complex to house and treat the insane, recording their medical observations in a psychiatric diary. When their funding was cut, they abandoned the project, but not before they created a staff of robots to provide for the humanoids. They then separated the quadrant from the rest of the galaxy with an impenetrable force field.

When a nearby star went nova, ensuing radiation gave sentience to the robots, who quickly grew fed up with the illogical humanoids, or "Loonies." Seeking to end their servitude, the robots used genetic engineering to give intelligence and awareness to the animals that had been left as companions for the patients. They charged the animals with the patients' care and protection, then relocated to the far side of the planet, which they proceeded to strip bare through industrial endeavors; one of which was construction of a vast, humanoid spacecraft called Ship.

The half-industrial, half-verdant planet became known as "Halfworld."

Weird right? Just wait, it gets better.

Rocket is the head of the Halfworld military and as such, is the one to approach the Hulk when he is dumped on Halfworld. The Hulk takes a liking to Rocket and the raccoon's friend Wal Russ, and thus agrees to help them keep Gideon's Bible--a rather sacred artifact of Halfworld's history--safe from the being known as Judson Jacks. During a long battle with the evil Judson, Rocket's girlfriend Lylla is kidnapped along with the bible and while Rocket does his best, he's only able to save Lylla.

It's not long after this that the Toy War begins and it is during this feud that Rocket is able to retrieve Gideon's Bible and turn it over to the robots on the other side of the planet. The Head Robot discovers, in the writings, that there is a way to cure the Loonies and helmets are created to do so. Afterwards, the newly cured Loonies, Rocket and his companions, and the robots join forces to put an end to the Toy War.

Afterwards, the newly aware humanoids offered Rocket and the others a chance to join their society but Rocket declined, leaving in Ship to explore the galaxy.

After a nasty run in with the Skrulls that resulted in Rocket losing a lot of his memories, the raccoon ends up a prisoner of the Kree and it's here that he meets Peter Quill aka The Star-Lord. He ends up joining Pete's team to help halt the Phalanx's attempted conquest of the galaxy; Rocket acted as a gifted military tactician who was also fearless, loyal, and insightful.

Afterwards he joined Starlord's Guardians of the Galaxy, where he proved essential to holding the team together when Starlord's leadership was questioned, keeping the team active despite several taking their leave. He ended up recruiting Bug and Mantis into the field team; Groot and Major Victory stayed on with the team as well. The War of Kings started and the team was put to the test with Rocket leading the Guardians into the fray to try and figure out what the flark was going on while Star-Lord went to the Kree homeworld to get answers. Meanwhile, Gamora and Adam Warlock were invading the Church of Truth to find out some answers to questions that Adam had while Drax the Destroyer and Phyla-Vel attempted to bring Heather aka Moondragon back to life. After getting caught and taken to a prison in the Negative Zone, Star Lord meets Jack Flag and the two manage to get a message to Mantis and the others that had come to their rescue. Rocket led the team to the prison and they were able to save both Peter and Jack, just in time for things to start getting worse.

As per usual.

The Universal Church or Truth continues to be a cause of problems for them and, after Adam Warlock goes a bit crazy and turns into Magus, the Guardians find out just what the church has been up to:

Bringing the Mad Titan back to life.

The Guardians are able to subdue Thanos and take him into custody, just in time for the the Church and Magus to tear open the Fault, letting in monstrous creatures led by the alternate version of Captain Mar-vell, Lord Mar-vell, the leader of the Cancerverse. After killing Magus, Mar-vell starts to search for Thanos who, as the Avatar of Death, is his nemesis and the battle cannot end until one of them is killed.

Needless to say, it leads to the Guardians teaming up with Thanos and heading into the Cancerverse to try and put a stop to things. Unfortunately, while they do accomplish their goal of collapsing the portal into the Cancerverse, Nova and Star-lord stay behind to make sure Thanos stays trapped as well.

Key Points of Rocket's current knowledge from home:
+Current surviving members: Gamora, Mantis, Bug, Jack Flag, Moondragon, Cosmo, Groot

Personality:
Rocket is an interesting fellow, to say the least, and he's not afraid to let you know just how interesting or just show you to begin with.

First and foremost, Rocket is a bit of an asshole when he wants to be. He's pretty damn cocky and isn't afraid to show it, quite confident in his abilities and what he knows. He's a 'take the lead' sort of fellow, ready to step up when he needs to though he also recognizes when someone else is in charge and will follow their orders accordingly. (Though, mostly only Starlord's, because he really does respect Peter. Others have to earn his respect before he really gives them the time of day.) He'll tell it like it is any day of the week and isn't really all that afraid to hurt feelings, when it comes right down to it.

Secondly, when it comes to those that have wormed their way into Rocket's little inner circle, they've got a comrade for life. He'll fight to the death for those he considers his friends and will go to any lengths he has to in order to help them if they need it. Remember though, it takes awhile to really earn this fuzzball's respect and even then, he likes to pretend he doesn't care for a good long while. This isn't to say that he doesn't have a good heart. Rocket does know how to be sympathetic and kind. He doesn't show it often, but he does have a big heart under all that fur and has been known to show that care and kindness when the situation calls for it, especially if the situation resonates with familiarity to something he's been through himself.. As mentioned before, he really does care for those he's close to, especially the other Guardians, and does his best to be a good friend and teammate to them whenever he can.

Third, Rocket is smart. Very smart. When the robots on Halfworld gave all the animals their intelligence, most of the creatures gained a fair amount, considering the group would need leaders. Rocket was one of those individuals that was in a position of power and with it came a lot of intelligence in order to make on the fly decisions that were best for the group, help him solve problems, etc. Now, he isn't so smart that he can't be fooled because he makes his fair share of mistakes--he'll just generally blame them on others instead of taking the blame himself. This intelligence also helps him when he's faced with trying to decide if someone is worth helping or not because, let's face it, some people can be conniving and are just trying to trick others.

Fourth, this raccoon is a hot head. He's got one hell of a temper and will draw his laser pistols or whatever weapon he may be toting without even batting an eyelash. He doesn't take kindly to people that look down on him for being a raccoon and will prove just how capable he is by beating the crap out of whoever is laughing at him for having fur. Once he gets going, it can be hard to stop him from running his mouth too much and sometimes his temper can get him and those he's with in more trouble than intended. It just comes with the territory really.

Last, but not least, Rocket has a very strong moral compass. Having seen the best and worst of things, he'd really rather prefer others to not have to go through the same things so he does his best, when sent out on a mission, to complete it and find a happy resolution to the problem. Now, that doesn't mean he doesn't get his hands dirty and really mess some stuff up, but he does, ultimately, want things to end on a good note. (As seen when he managed to talk Thanos down rather than engaging him right away for fear of harming everyone else that was in the area.) If it can be done peacefully, he'll take that route, even if it takes away most of his fun.

The biggest thing with Rocket is that if you give him respect, he'll give it back to you in one form or another. Treat him like shit and..well...hope you like the sting of laser pistols or whatever item he has on hand that he can use as a weapon.

Powers:
+Enhanced Senses: Being a raccoon, many of Rocket's senses are heightened to levels well above human. He is able to see much better than humans and is extremely well adapted to near dark conditions. His enhanced sense of smell allows him to detect subtle changes in scents around him enabling him to detect the approach of others and increasing his ability to operate in darkness. With his broad auditory range, he can perceive tones outside the range of the human ear as well as subtle sounds caused by vibrations on the ground. His hyper sensitive paws allow him to identify objects before touching them with vibrissae located above his claws.

+Starship Pilot: Rocket is an extremely skilled pilot, able to control and fly pretty much every ship he's every come in contact with...after a bit of playing around first.

+Marksman: Thanks to his enhanced senses, and his general skill on the battlefield, Rocket is an excellent marksman, almost always hitting his target--and even if he doesn't get the bullseye, necessarily, he does still at least hit the target usually.

+Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Rocket is trained in hand-to-hand combat, able to go toe to toe with the best of them. It really doesn't matter the size of his opponent, Rocket is never to scared to jump into every fray and will fight tooth and nail even if he has absolutely no chance of winning.

+Military Tactician: Because of his position back on Half-world, Rocket has become quite the tactician--most of the reason why Star Lord recruited him into the Guardians in the first place. He's very good at reading the enemy and figuring out how to get a few steps ahead of them, loving the element of surprise most of all. He's not afraid to step up and take control if he has to and generally, because of his skill, will get his men through the thickest of situations.
